Got a lovely clear night forecast so the observatory’s converted back to imaging. For the past 6 weeks it’d been set up for class visual use.
Target is Sh 2-101, the Tulip Nebula. With 9 minutes of exposure there’s not a trace of nebulosity, and I’m at the proper coordinates.
New target: IC 63 the Ghost Nebula. Seems appropriate.
32 X 5 minutes, binned 2X, cooled -10C, guided 1 sec intervals.
Meade 14” at f/6.3, ASI2600MC-P, Optolong LP-P filter
Sadly 2.1 magnitude Gama Cas (lower right) is only 19 arc seconds from the ghost and there are 2 separate green lensing artifacts that limit processing and make the image a write-off.
At least the good news is that I'd forgotten about the customized f/6.3 reducer/flatter I'd embedded in the imaging train long ago. So at least I'm not struggling at prime focus.
