The nights suitable for imaging have been few and far between. Last night was far from ideal. The Moon was bright and there were 15 to 20 MPH wind gusts. I decided to give it a try anyway. I decided to image the barred dwarf irregular galaxy NGC 4228. It is situated in Canes Venatici so it was pretty far from the Moon.

I started imaging around 8PM, took 184 subs (2 minutes, binned 1x1, -10C, gain 100), and shutdown around 3AM. I did take 50 flats. The wind must have died down as the night progressed because my first 30 images showed signs of wind gusts and had to be deleted. The images taken during the remainder of the night were mostly usable. I ended up with 161 usable subs.

PixInsight was used for image processing using mostly fairly standard processes.

NGC 4228 is about 10 million lights years from Earth. It is a member of the M94 Galaxy Group. It is similar to the Large Magellanic Cloud, but much larger and brighter.

See my complete catalog of images, along with documentation at MenardAstrophotography.com.

That's pretty amazing Roger. Over here I had wind and a high haze to contend with as well as the moon. Didn't even try going out under those conditions. And your 4228 is only 8' X 6' in size requiring a lot of magnification. Doing 5 hours is a big help but given the conditions the sharpness of this image is amazing indeed.

Thanks ... it was struggle, but I was determined to get out and image something. Taking 184 images was a big help since it allowed me to cull out the images impacted by wind gusts (which were many).

I reprocessed NGC4228 to try and bring out more of the galaxy
